Climate concerns are finally motivating us to look hard at power generation. The Biden Administration is considering deep water, offshore wind farms. Britton’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss is talking about allowing fracking. The world continues to be over reliant on oil and coal, and you can bet that as these resources become scarce, there will be more global conflict. Look at Russia’s efforts to coerce European countries into support for his Ukraine invasions. It is time for US, the greatest country in the world to lead the way into safe, secure, reliable energy from nuclear power.
If you are concerned about the environment, opposed to sending our military around the world, or just want to avoid being held hostage by OPEC or Russia, it is time to get serious about nuclear power. We can dig for more coal, drill in Alaska, and drive our subsidized electric vehicles, but we are overlooking a problem. Electricity cannot be stored. It must be generated to fit demand. And, waiting for some breakthrough in battery technology isn’t going to save us. The battery bank would have to be too big, would cost too much, and at best might get us through a night.
Three Mile Island was a long time ago. We are sending people into space, let’s stop being scared and put our researchers, technology, and coal miners to work building safe, reliable, domestic power plants
